Effective October 7, 2026

SF Tech Map is a pre-launch map of the San Francisco Bay Area tech scene. This page explains what we collect when you visit sftechmap.app or join the early list, what we do with it, and the choices you have. "We" means SF Tech Map.

The short version

  • If you join the list, we collect your email address. That is the only personal information you give us.
  • We use it to confirm you are on the list and to email you when the map opens.
  • We do not sell your information, share it for advertising, or run ad trackers, analytics or cookies on this site.
  • You can ask us to delete your email at any time by writing to hello@sftechmap.app.

What we collect

  • Your email address, if you enter it in the "Count me in" form.
  • Messages you send us, such as emails to hello@sftechmap.app, including your address and what you write.
  • Standard technical data your browser sends whenever it loads a website (for example your IP address, device and browser type, and the pages you request). Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes this to deliver the site and keep it secure. We do not keep our own logs of it and we do not build profiles of visitors.
  • Campaign tags in links (for example "utm_source=x"). These sit in the web address only; we do not store them with your email.

We do not collect payment details, precise location, or any sensitive personal information. We do not use cookies, and we do not store your email in your browser.

If you add SF Tech Map to your home screen or visit the site, your browser saves copies of the site's own files (the page, icons and scripts) so it loads faster and works offline. This holds no personal information.

How we use it

  • To send you a confirmation when you join, and one email when the map opens.
  • To answer messages you send us.
  • To run, secure and fix the site.

We rely on your consent when you join the list. You can withdraw it at any time (see "Your choices").

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We use a small number of service providers that handle data only to help us run the site:

  • Cloudflare: hosts the site, runs its domain name system, and forwards mail sent to hello@sftechmap.app.
  • Resend: stores the list of email addresses and delivers our emails.
  • Google: our site loads fonts from Google Fonts, and mail you send to us is received through Gmail.
  • unpkg: delivers the 3D graphics library the page uses.
  • Amazon Web Services (S3): delivers public map elevation data used for the 3D terrain.

When your browser loads files from Google, unpkg or Amazon, those companies see your IP address and browser details, as they would from any website that uses them. The "Share" buttons only open another site (such as X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Reddit, your messages app or your email app) if you click them; nothing is loaded from those sites beforehand.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or security of our users or the site.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address until you ask us to remove it, or until we shut the project down, at which point we will delete the list. We keep messages you send us for as long as we need to deal with them. Our providers keep technical data under their own policies.

Your choices

  • Unsubscribe or delete: email hello@sftechmap.app from the address you signed up with (or reply to any email from us) and say "delete". We will remove it within 30 days, usually much sooner. Emails we send for marketing will also carry an unsubscribe option.
  • See or correct what we hold: ask at the same address and we will tell you what we have, and fix or remove it.
  • Browser signals: because we do not track you across sites or sell or share your data, Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals do not change how the site works.

California and other U.S. state privacy rights

California law (including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and the California Online Privacy Protection Act) gives California residents rights over their personal information, and several other states have similar laws. Some of these laws apply only to businesses above certain sizes. We follow the same principles for everyone in the United States regardless:

  • Know and access: you can ask what personal information we have collected, used and disclosed.
  • Delete and correct: you can ask us to delete or correct it.
  • Opt out of sale or sharing: we do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
  • Non-discrimination: we will not treat you differently for using these rights.

To make a request, email hello@sftechmap.app from the address in question. We may ask you to confirm that you control it before acting. An authorized agent can make a request for you with your written permission. Under California's "Shine the Light" law, we do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.

San Francisco's own privacy rules, such as its Privacy First Policy and surveillance technology ordinance, govern City departments rather than private websites, so California state law and federal law are the rules that apply to us.

Email rules

Our emails follow the federal CAN-SPAM Act: they say who they are from, are not misleading, and give you a way to opt out, which we honor promptly (and no later than 10 business days).

Children

SF Tech Map is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information (see the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS and we limit who can access the list. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Visitors outside the United States

SF Tech Map is aimed at the San Francisco Bay Area and runs on U.S.-based infrastructure. If you join from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States. If you live in the EEA or UK and want to exercise your rights, use the contact below.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and its effective date, and if the change is significant we will tell people on the list by email before it takes effect.
