SoMa, short for South of Market, is the part of San Francisco south of Market Street, running toward the bay. It is one of the main places startups, scaleups, venture firms and coworking spaces sit side by side, and it is easy to cover on foot. SF Tech Map is building a map of it.

Getting around SoMa
The neighborhood is served by the main downtown transit lines, which makes it one of the easiest places in the city to reach:
- BART and Muni Metro run under Market Street, with stations at Embarcadero, Montgomery and Powell on SoMa's northern edge.
- Caltrain stops at 4th and King, at the southern edge, linking the Peninsula and Silicon Valley.
- The Salesforce Transit Center in the Transbay area is a hub for regional buses.
- Most of the core can be walked in minutes, though the blocks south of Market are large.
Landmarks that anchor the area
Moscone Center
San Francisco's main convention center, which fills the area with events and conferences through the year.
Yerba Buena Gardens and SFMOMA
A green and cultural center in the middle of SoMa, useful for finding your bearings.
Salesforce Tower and the Transbay area
The tallest tower on the skyline sits at the northeast edge, next to the transit center.
Oracle Park
The ballpark on the southeastern waterfront, a short walk from Caltrain.
